First Aid & CPR
Class Descriptions:
This course will prepare you to recognize and care for a variety of first aid, breathing, and cardiac emergencies involving adults, children and infants and meets OSHA/workplace requirements.
The CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers course instructs those who have a duty to act (professional rescuers) in the knowledge and skills needed to respond appropriately to breathing and cardiac emergencies. This includes the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) to care for a victim experiencing cardiac arrest. Successful students will receive a certificate for CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers valid for 2 years.
The Basic Life Support course can help you safely and effectively respond to medical emergencies in your community. By blending online coursework, reading and lecture with hands-on experience, our Basic Life Support training allows you to learn new techniques and sharpen your skills so you can deliver care to those in need and help improve patient outcomes. This course also incorporates teaching students to recognize and care for a variety of first aid emergencies such as burns, cuts, scrapes, sudden illnesses, head, neck, back injuries, heat and cold emergencies, and how to handle bloodborne pathogens.
Designed specifically for healthcare professionals and first-responders, our BLS courses deliver information and skills training on:
- Rapid Assessment and Visual Survey
- CPR/AED for Adults, Children and Infants
- Obstructed Airways
- Opioid Overdoses
- Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, Communication and Teamwork
- The Emergency Medical Services System
- Legal Considerations
- Precautions
Successful students will receive a certificate for Basic Life Support valid for 2 years.
Class Formats:
UCCS Campus Recreation offers Online Training in a blended course format. We offer American Red Cross Skills Checks for select ARC courses. Campus Recreation also offers on-campus classes which combine lecture, video and hands-on skill training (see below).
Campus Recreation will be offering AHA courses again later in the 2022 year.

Refund Conditions
If a customer changes their mind about purchasing a class with the same business day as the purchase, a full refund will be awarded without penalty or processing fee ($5). Otherwise, classes are non-refundable except in the case of documented injury, illness, relocation, or emergency situation. Note, if another CPR class is available that works with your schedule, Campus Recreation is open to moving you into another class with notice at least 24 hours in advance to the scheduled service beginning.
Program classes are group classes that have a ratio of up to 10 students per instructor and are taught at the Recreation and Wellness Center.
All courses combine lecture, video and hands-on skill training. We incorporate real-life rescue scenarios and lessons that reinforce decision-making skills. All classes are taught by certified American Red Cross instructors under the current American Red Cross guidelines. We strive to provide a welcoming class environment for all students, no matter what their current skill level or physical capacity.
