Meningitis
All new students living in on-campus housing must provide proof of receiving the Meningococcal ACWY vaccination or sign a waiver.
The Meningococcal B vaccine is recommended for Housing students as well, but is not required by law. The CDC recommends Meningococcal B vaccines due to meningococcal serogroup B being the main cause of meningococcal disease in Europe and North America.
Also, in addition to meningococcal A,C,W,Y vaccine, certain preteens and teens should get a serogroup B meningococcal vaccine if they have a rare “complement component deficiency” disorder; are taking the medicine Soliris; or have a damaged spleen or have had their spleen removed.
It is recommended that students speak with their primary care provider about the vaccination(s) that are most appropriate for them.
Please read the Public Health Fact sheet from the El Paso County Department of Health and Environment for questions and concerns.
