SOS Program

SOS (Skills for Optimizing Student Success) is a specific layer of service through the Wellness Center that was created to support UCCS students by building skills, identifying strengths, and helping with common college challenges, like making friends and overcoming homesickness.

We are not only here for students that are "struggling," but for any student that would benefit from extra support.

Every UCCS student has access to 3 FREE hours of 1:1 meetings. You can schedule those as you see fit. We also provide free group sessions to connect likeminded students in a supportive environment.

SOS is not therapy, it is an opportunity to work one to one on building skills. Part of what we do is help you determine if other campus resources would be helpful for you.

SOS Categories

The 4 categories of SOS are social connection, study skills, sleep health, and self-care because together they represent core foundations of student well-being and academic success. Research shows that building strong social connections supports belonging and reduces feelings of isolation. Study skills tools empower students to approach academics with confidence, helping them manage workloads effectively and reduce stress.  UCCS college students often mention struggles with sleep health. Getting consistent, quality sleep is essential for supporting memory, concentration, emotional stability, and overall physical health. Finally, self-care practices, including stress management, mindfulness, and healthy routines, equip students to navigate challenges and maintain balance. By addressing these interconnected areas, the SOS program provides a holistic approach to supporting students’ success both inside and outside the classroom.

SOS Program Services

As part of the SOS program, Wellness Promotion staff and PEAK educators, offer a wide variety of group presentations focused on the 4 categories:  Social Connection, Study Skills, Sleep Health and Self-Care.
