Internship Program Admissions
The University Colorado Colorado Springs Recreation and Wellness Mental Health Services is pleased to offer our psychology internship program. The aim of the internship program at UCCS MHS is to train generalist health service psychologists in a multidisciplinary college mental health setting. Training and supervised experience are offered in psychological evaluation and testing, individual psychotherapy, marital therapy, family therapy, group therapy and supervision. The integration of training, research, and service is a priority for our training program. In addition, educational outreach activities and consultations about resources to cope with life transitions are regular services. The internship year begins on August 1 and ends on July 31 of the following year.
To be eligible for the psychology internship program, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Currently enrolled in a doctoral program in clinical psychology or counseling psychology.
- Successful completion of comprehensive examinations prior to start date.
- Completion of all doctoral coursework by the beginning of internship.
- Approved for internship by their academic training director.

- 400 Total direct hours preferred but not required. *If the applicants do not meet the 400 direct hours required, we will ask for additional information as to the reason for less direct hours, such as how has COVID - 19 possibly impacted their ability to obtain hours.
- Background Check. All University Colorado Colorado Springs employees, including psychology interns and trainees, must successfully pass a criminal background check and clearance.
- Work Eligibility. All internship applicants must be eligible to work in the U.S. by either citizenship or Visa status.

- Interns are allowed two hours per week of research time that may be used either for in-house research or dissertation completion.
- Interns are eligible to purchase a faculty/staff parking permit. There are free parking lots that interns may register for and use the internal university shuttle for free.
- Interns may utilize recreational facilities at the Gallogly Recreation and Wellness Center for a monthly fee
- As employees of UCCS, interns are covered in the performance of their professional duties under the university liability insurance policy.
Facilities
We are currently housed in the Gallogly Recreation and Wellness Center on the UCCS Campus. We have 6 licensed psychologists of staff, 3 licensed professional counselors and 1 licensed clinical social worker and 1 licensed marriage and family therapist. We have 15 offices with 8 of them equipped with video recording technology and two large group rooms. One group room is a full kitchen to expand our offerings for eating disorder/body image therapeutic work along with space for our dieticians to provide services. Additionally:
- A private office equipped with a desktop computer, phone and Ethernet access
- A designated work room with computers, phone and printer

Administrative and Technical Support
Interns enjoy the same access to clerical support as the professional staff with front office staff available to answer phones and schedule client appointments. Access to University IT staff is available to assist all staff with computer hardware and software issues, as well as Communications staff to assist with questions about web design and social media.
