Exposure Information
Respiratory Virus Guidance (to include COVID-19, Influenza, RSV)
If you test positive for COVID-19 (regardless of vaccination status) or have another respiratory illness:
- Isolate until fever has resolved for at least 24 hours without relying on fever-reducing medications AND symptoms are improving.
- If your fever has resolved for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication AND symptoms have improved you may leave your house/room but wear a mask for the next 5 days.
- Also use additional prevention tools, such as taking steps for cleaner air (bringing in fresh outside air, purifying indoor air, or gathering outdoors), being diligent about hygiene (covering your coughs and sneezes, washing or sanitizing your hands often, and cleaning frequently touched surfaces), and practice distancing. CDC recommends these additional precautions, especially around people who are at high risk for severe illness or immunocompromised.
If you test positive for COVID-19 or have another respiratory illness and you live on campus:
- Students with a meal plan may leave isolation to pick up to-go food from the dining rooms while wearing a well-fitting mask. If you are unable to go to the dining room, you may have a friend pick up to-go food from the dining room for you.
- If you test positive for COVID-19, contact the RA on-call and request to speak with a Residence Life Professional. This step is only for monitoring the residence halls for an outbreak.
- Summit: 719-255-4600
- Alpine: 719-255-6500
If you test positive for COVID-19 and you have no symptoms:
Take added precautions for the five days following a positive result. That would include steps like masking, allowing cleaner air (bringing in fresh outside air, purifying indoor air, or gathering outdoors), being diligent about hygiene (covering your coughs and sneezes, washing or sanitizing your hands often, and cleaning frequently touched surfaces), and practice distancing.
If you are exposed to someone that is positive for COVID-19:
- If you have been exposed to an individual with COVID-19 you should monitor for symptoms for 10 days after exposure.
- Wear a well-fitting mask around others for 5 days.
- Test on day 6 if possible.
- If you develop symptoms within the 10 days following an exposure, you should get tested. If you test negative, it is recommended to continue taking precautions through day 5. If you do test positive, follow the instructions titled “If you test positive for COVID...”
